I was just sitting down watching some t.v. I'm on vacation from college this week. Here is the latest commercial that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Then again what commercials these days that are talking about a drug make sense. I'll let you watch this one, and decide for yourself.

Alright so your kids are great, and you love them, and you want to be protected. I get it, I do the only problem is that well the side effects. Just listen to them all, certain types of cancers, a cyst, an infection in your uterian wall, and so many others I guess the only good part is that it doesn't involve sudden explosive diarhea. I mean what is the FDA's criteria these days. Oh they want to get some sleep, do you think they'd mind if they accidentally woke up in their own feces. They are tired of bratty awful kids ruining there lives. You don't think they'd mind if when this got put into the uterus it may fuck it permanently do you? Just one man's thoughts. Also don't even get me started on the toyota commercial for the highlander.

Why I want to teach

The year was ninety-ninety six I was a nineteen year old Senior at a boarding school on Cape Cod called Riverview. I was one of fourteen senior guys which was a problem because unfortunately the senior dorm fit twelve guys not fourteen. This turned out to be a sign though because I and one other guy were put next door with a Junior, a few sophomores, and finally four to five youngsters that were either eleven or twelve. Except here is the thing one of them became a bit more close to me then all the rest his name was Keith, he was different then the others he took me beating him up not in a violent way more like a big brother would. I at times made sure he was doing his schoolwork when the dorm staff was busy. His life was cut way to short when he passed away December of 2010. Keith, I know your looking down on the entire Riverview Family. You will be missed!! Thanks for helping me be inspired Keith.

Does Education Mean Nothing?

First off is that truly a serious question no not really at this point in time in my life though maybe it is. I have two friends that are extremely successful and neither of them finished getting an Associates Degree, one works for a company called Flextronics which basically is a company that Verizon contractually uses to fix your broken cell phone. He makes good $ sure he can save some of that $ because he is younger then me and lives with his mom&dad still though no degree and he makes good $. The other friend is married, and makes even more then the first friend granted he does have a great background in computers. Meanwhile here I am I got my A.S with a concentration in Early Childhood Education in 2008 and what have I got I work P/T at Cape Cod Community College. No I'm not having a session where I want anyone to tell me what to do, it just is draining knowing that I've got more education then both of them yet I cannot get a job doing what I want, or a job that is 30+ hours doing something. I just wonder was it worth my time and effort to go to college or did I waste my time? Again am I being serious No not really.

Internet Applications?

Alright so we all agree we are in the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression right? Well here is what companies are doing to cut costs, they are having you fill out your information online, and sometimes fill out a questionnaire to see what type of employee you are? Yes I said it computers are determining whether or not you can perform the duties of any job that is posted. Why do I have a problem with this you ask? The last time I checked computers can't see your appearance, they can't tell how sincere you are, and they most certainly aren't able to figure out what type of "true" personality you have. Sure the companies save $, and are able to get more $ into their pockets but do they have quality employees?

I'm going to give you a quick example of how this may have worked out for a young man that applied when I was working at a wholesale club in Hyannis. He goes through the entire process of applying for the job online, fills out the questionnaire, and voila they have a candidate, he comes in for the interview looking nice enough, and is hired. The first day of work he walks in wearing ripped jeans, Converse high tops, and a do-rag looking like he's going to take down the store with his gang of hoodlums. What you asked stopped that from actually happening? A person taking his application when he dropped it off, looking it over, and putting a little note on it. That is right a person, you know the ones that you talk to on a daily basis. Maybe you don't know because your up in your office sifting through what the computer has told you is a good or bad candidate for the position that you posted.

One more thing I just want you to imagine for a moment what if the government used this method. That is right you applied to the be the President of the United States, you told them all your work history, answered the questionnaire, and met the requirements to be President. Who do you think we'd end up with? Ludacris, or President Obama? Let's ask the computer.

Teachers Wanted?

I saw President Obama's interview with Matt Lauer on the Today Show this week, and he was pleading with college students that were in the Education Field to go in that direction. He was telling us all that America needs Great Teachers, and that every successful person can point to a teacher that changed their lives. That may be a True statement but the fact is a Morning News Show devoted an entire week to speaking about Education... maybe that is the reason that kids are dropping out, teachers are discouraged though. Show me what the President or his secretary of education has done to improve our schools. I mean actual proof that our schools are heading in the right direction, and our teachers are less discouraged.

I received my A.S with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from a community college here on the Cape in 2008 what have I done since then? I've continued to pursue being what I am qualified for a Paraprofessional or a 1:1 what has it gotten me, an interview or two, and no responses back from schools who don't see the value of a quick note/ hell even an e-mail saying thanks for your application we've decided to hire someone else. I for one have always been a fighter and I will continue to fight to be that teacher that changes kids lives. I'm lucky in that I get to work in a college vocational program where I see actual proof of the students that I touch. I just hope that one day I'll get the chance to show parents such as my next door neighbor Aaron that not every teacher is low down scum. Life Changes for this ld student

Today is March 2nd, 2010. Wow has my life change over these last nearly eleven months. After always working since the time I was fourteen years old yeah my mom (above with my her granddaughter Scarlett)actually wanted me to work earlier then that I lost a job. I did attend high school or boarding school during some of that time so it wasn't as if I always had a job the only thing that stopped me was schooling and that was just high school. The other thing that happened is after not really ever-looking at all I found my girlfriend who I care very deeply for. Her name is Beth she is a dental assistant in Falmouth. During the time that I was away from work if one thing kept on being repeated to me and I was feeling it was that I wanted to teach. The Project Forward program has given me so many chances to show that I can teach, and every day I feel such jubilation that I got to be part of a special group that changes year to year. The problem that I came across last year was I got some confidence with some interviewing at school systems, and then didn't get any of the positions and I learned that if I would have gotten any positions Project Forward would be no longer. One thing I do know is I love my job teaching and molding young adults into the future workers of tomorrow. My mom by the way is a school teacher and has been teaching up in NH for at least the last twenty-five years!!! Maybe that is where I get some of it from!!
